Cast your minds back to the days where, in the domesticity of your bedroom, you were ensconced comfortably beside your parent, with a book laden with all the colours in the world. The magical moment as the book opens, golden dust flies up in your face and off you go to be absorbed to a time warp........

LSESU Malaysia Club proudly presents “A Cintarella Story”, based on the traditional Malay folktale, Bawang Merah Bawang Putih. The pumpkin carriage, lost shoe, and fairy godmother disappears and in its place a backdrop of kampungs, wells, Sultans and family drama is imported into our version of a fairy tale. Our cast takes on a smorgasbord of vegetables and fruits, from Pak Choy to Garlic to Ketupat, whom all in an epic Malaysian-style drama jostle for power, peace and prosperity.

The story unfolds as our gregarious Malay father (Pak Choy) marries his second wife, Melon whom turns out to be a cancerous nerve in the household. Rivalry between the two wives gain increasing friction and the drama reaches its peak when Pak Choy and Pumpkin (the first wife) suffer tragic events and poor Shallot, son of Pumpkin is orphaned. As a child trying to eke a normal life without the conditioning love of his parents, we see a classic Cinderellian struggle in him, facing off his evil stepmother and stepbrother, Garlic. The same way Cinderella finds solace in fairy Godmother, Shallot clings sentimentally onto his mother’s various reincarnations through his talent of singing. A glimmer of hope finally offers Shallot a chance to break the harsh spell he is under. A bonus in form of a princess stands in waiting! Will Shallot have the courage to stand firm amid strong winds?

“A Cintarella Story” promises to bring you a fun-filled fantasy infused with Garlician humor, tragedy and redemption.
