Notice how time passes by so fast as the first week of our Easter break has come to an end? I hope that everyone enjoyed this first week as the time to whip out your pens and papers, burying your head in your books is about to begin. For your information, this newsletter will be the last of our many newsletters for the Lent term.

Interested in an Easter break trip to Thrope Park? Wondering what is up for the summer term apart from our dreaded exams? Who would be our new batch of freshers for 2012? Thorpe Park Outing


Stressed out about the finals? Haven't left your seat (or the library) the whole Easter? Join us for one exciting day at Thorpe Park! We've invited your friends, did the legwork and planning, and even slashed the entrance prices to bring you a fuss-free, satisfaction-guaranteed event!

Help Our Freshers Out - Introducing the Buddy System!

Everyone has had their time as a fresher - the list of Do's and Don't's that is worth sharing... Guess what, you can help the new batch!

Interested in guiding freshers to the best places to get cheap food? Or what about the best plan for their mobile phones? Or what they should and should not be lugging to London from home? The LSESU Malaysian Club is initiating a new buddy system for our upcoming freshers of 2012/2013! Take this opportunity to advise those excited souls out there on everything you wish you knew about LSE and London before you started your university life.

All you need to do is sign up HERE, and we will be sending you further emails during summer on who your assigned buddies would be and what you can do to help them out!

A quick note related to this: we will be organising the annual Freshers' Camp which is happening during the summer break. We will update you on it during the break.

'F1 an engine of growth for nation'

Hosting the biggest sporting event in Malaysia, the Formula One race has helped generate tourism revenue for the country, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak said. "Formula One in Malaysia has been an engine of growth in our country with Malaysia reaping numerous benefits from its involvement in the sport," he said in his message published in the event's official programme book. [READ MORE - New Straits Times]

Liow: Lynas won't get license if risky to public health

Health Minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai today (24/03/2012) reiterated the government's stand that Lynas Corporation will not be allowed to operate its controversial rare earth plant here, if it is found to endanger public health. He said the government stand on this issue is clear. "The prime minister had mentioned before, if it is not safe and harmful to the health of the people, we won't give them the licence. ReTH!NK 2012: Changing Perspectives

This year, ICMS along with PwC and ICAEW will be organising our inaugural reTH!NK: Changing Perspectives! The symposium themed The 2012 Olympics: Thinking Beyond The Games will be held in the format of a competition for UK university undergraduates from ASEAN countries. All participants are given the freedom to explore ANY areas relevant to the Olympics. This event promises to be intensely intellectual and highly stimulating for fellow students and judges alike as the participants discuss the different implications of the upcoming and highly anticipated Olympics 2012. It provides an opportunity to impress and network with high-level personnels such as Johan Mahmood Merican, CEO of TalentCorp Malaysia, Mark Billington FC, ICAEW Regional Director of South East Asia and Pauline Ho, a senior partner of PwC as our judges. Also, winners of this competition stand a chance to win internships with PwC over the summer in Malaysia.

Glasgow Spring Games 2012


The Strathclyde University Malaysian Society (SUMSOC) will be hosting Glasgow Spring Games 2012. This game is open to all members of the public who are interested.

The details are as follow:

 Day/Date:  13th April 2012 (Friday)
 Time:  10.00 p.m. - 5.00 p.m.
 Venue:  Kelvin Hall International Sports Arena
 Games offered:  Badminton
 Table Tennis
 5-a-side Football
 Track and Field


All games will be conducted in the indoor arena.

The registration for the games are now open. Please note that the closing date for registration is on the 7th April 2012.
